Bakes and Brews is a renowned café in Dharamshala. It is both a café and a bakery known for its coffee and good food. It is also known for its warm and homely feel and mostly attracts youth, family and the local Tibetans.
The cafe stands for its campaign of "Eat local, Shop Local, Enjoy local, Promote Local"
It also has a small retail corner for baked goods and frozen food.
Before
Proposed Concept
1. To infuse simple Himachali aesthetics and style into a contemporary interior.
2. To use locally sourced material for all the furniture and shelves
3. Creating a slate wall roof cladding which is a common sight in Himachali homes into a vertical wall shelving system.
4. To incorporate weaving craft into furniture to give a more traditional touch and also to promote the craft.
5. To separate the brewing section from the bakery and retail section to divert the consumer to one counter and also to create a clear distinction between the two and to celebrate the aura of both individually.
We divided the entire place into two halves, in which the left half is dedicated to seating and the right half is dedicated to purely business.
Also, the right half celebrates brewing hence an entirely dedicated counter has been allocated to brewing on the right.
The left celebrates bakery hence all the fridges and the counter for business has been solely dedicated to the left half.
The two halves of the interior when working together justify the name of the café i.e. Bakes and Brews (café/bakery)
