Barks Out Loud

Barks Out Loud was an experimental surface generation project in which pine tree barks and organic wax was used to make unconventional surfaces. Pine barks can be found in abundance in Himachal Pradesh and people frequently peel these barks from the tree to obtain resin.  I used wax as a binding material.

What seemed like a fragile material to use turned out give it not only stability but also a protective layer.

The Pine barks have a layered structure giving it thickness and strength. Pine Barks are incredibly soft and light, yet at the same time are not so porous. It can resist water for up to 24 hours.

To attain zero wastage the bark shavings are hand compressed into making a cork base for the surface
